Vision
This portal is expected to enhance the use of information communication technologies (ICT) to improve and increase economic and social productivity for rural development, and improve livelihoods by increasing access to channels of ICT through rural information centers (RICs) and Telecenters.
Why this Portal?
Development of this rural information gateway portal has been precipitated by the need for a standard depository of information available online for rual users encompassing comprehensive information needs of rural users throughout Nepal. This portal is in Nepali as well as in English, and contain cross-sector links to information and services provided to and targeted for rural communities. This activity is expected to bring about direct impacts on all rural users throughout Nepal. The rural information gateway will provide a diverse range of information, and appropriate linkages to bring this acquired information into direct use. This information gateway will serve as an umbrella depository of the information needs of rural users throughout Nepal, and will facilitate access to e-government services such as e-governance.
The protal complements national activities particularly in areas of agriculture and forestry that focus on improving farmers' income through better marketing of high value crops and NTFPs, and promotes expansion and diversification of information and communication services into other strategic areas including but not limited to health, education, women's empowerment, employment opportunities, rural tourism, and governance among others. |
