Welcome to Rural Information Gateway

Welcome to this pioneering attempt to create a Rural Information Gateway for internet users in rural Nepal!

This portal seeks to establish a standard depository of information available online for rural users encompassing comprehensive information needs of rural users throughout Nepal.  The rural information gateway will provide a diverse range of information, and appropriate linkages to bring this acquired information into direct use. This information gateway will serve as an umbrella depository of the information needs of rural users throughout Nepal, and is expected to facilitate access to e-services such as e-governance and telemedicine.

This portal is in Nepali as well as in English, and will contain cross-sector links to information and services provided to rural communities. The information gateway has been designed so that it is easily navigated, and information clearly divided within several directories. Information in the gateway will cater to the information needs of rural users, operators, donors, and to those interested in the telecenter status in Nepal. Information has been categorized accordingly, with translations in English as appropriate. The directories themselves contain either static pages of related information, such as e-forms and announcements, or are linked to relevant websites as appropriate.

This activity is expected to bring about direct impacts on all rural users throughout Nepal. Without a strong information base, and constant updates, however, the portal would be of little value. Lateral linkages in collaboration with organizations active in Nepal's development process are vital in order to make optimize public awareness of existing services and knowledge.

Further, identification of local content in different sectors and to digitize all of them to fit in this gateway is a dauting task. Hence, in this early phase, in addition to 'Livelihood', only three sectors are included in this website. Even in these three, collecting in-depth conents would take significant resources and time. For this, only available contents are either linked if available in other websites, or summarized and posted with contact information. Please join us in extending information to those that stand to benefit from this knowledge most by embracing this portal as a means of outreach for your organization.
